The World Allergy Organization Training School (WATS) was held in St. Petersburg, Russia June 29-30, 2019 in conjunction with the XII World Asthma, Allergy & COPD Forum sponsored by the World Immunopathology Organization (WIPO). More than 55 attendees from Russia, Georgia, and numerous surrounding countries attended the 2-day meeting with lectures and workshops covering the core subject areas in allergy and immunology.
The faculty for the training school, co-sponsored by the World Allergy Organization and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, were Dr. Dana Wallace (US), Dr. Bryan Martin (US), Dr. David Stukus (US), and Prof Zeinab Awad El-Sayed (Egypt). Moderators were Congress President, Prof Revaz Sepiashvili (Russia) and Congress Organizer Prof Manana Chikhladze (Georgia), Congress organizer. Dr. Wallace’s husband, Dr. Ralph Cash, was the unofficial WATS and congress photographer. Drs. Wallace, Martin, and Stukus as WATS faculty as well as Dr. Sami Bahna (US), a congress planner and speaker, were invited to be part of the WIPO opening ceremony. All WATS faculty participated in the XII World Asthma, Allergy & COPD Forum, as lecturers and moderators, and were honored at the Presidential Dinner.
While the participants expressed over and over again their appreciation for their new knowledge and hands-on experience, the WATS faculty received equal pleasure in sharing practical information on diagnosing and treatment common allergic diseases and seeing the enthusiasm and excitement of the participants’ experience. The WATS program is truly a winner for fulfilling educational needs worldwide, thereby improving the care of allergic patients—no matter where they live.
