2024 World Allergy Training School - Asunción, Paraguay
The Paraguayan Society of Immunology and Allergy (SPAAI) hosted its first World Allergy Training School (WATS) in Asunción, Paraguay.
WATS is part of WAO’s Emerging Societies Program (ESP), with the objective to develop learning communities appropriate to a specific regional context while strengthening existing knowledge and skills for treating all allergic diseases. The WATS are made possible through the support of the World Allergy Organization and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI).
The international faculty included allergy experts from the United States, Argentina, and Mexico. Dr. Dana Wallace (United States), is the co-chair of the ESP/WATS committee and lead the planning committee; which consisted of the WATS faculty and SPAAI organizers: Prof. José Antonio Ortega Martell (Mexico), Prof. R. Maximiliano Gómez (Argentina), Prof. Aikaterini Anagnostou (United States), Dra. Dory Mora, Dra. Perla Alcaraz, Dra. Mónica González, Dra. Cinthia Perez, and Dr. Gustavo Farias. In addition to the above listed training session leaders, Dr. Carlos Bello and Dra. Liliana Venialgo assisted with the workshop on spirometry.
The WATS agenda incorporated an interactive teaching approach and included lectures om asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and urticaria, anaphylaxis, and food allergy, each with a corresponding workshop, and case discussions.
With an attendance of >130 participants, this has been one of the largest WATS ever! Many thanks to all who participated and helped organize this successful event!
